Some Black Americans say they don’t like Cynthia Erivo because she profits off of Black American culture, playing Black American icons like Aretha Franklin and Harriet Tubman while disrespecting Black people. They point to some tweets from January 2013. Erivo begins by saying, “I suppose i should really make an attempt to record ‘signal’(a song she wrote) PROPERLY.”
